In this episode of Unskippable Dialogue, hosts Pearse McCann and Conor King revisit Stray, the cyberpunk cat-simulator that took the world by storm — and then gently knocked our hearts off the shelf. Originally released as a free PS Plus title, Pearse returns for a second playthrough on PS5 to re-examine what makes Stray such a standout indie hit.

From its haunting, neon-drenched setting to the stunning art direction and evocative soundtrack, this feline-led adventure remains a beautifully-crafted gem. But it’s not all headbutts and nap spots — we dig into the divisive moment the cat gets a weapon, and whether this tonal shift derails the immersive worldbuilding or adds depth to the gameplay.

As always, we close with our patented Unskippable rating — and yes, Stray claws its way to a full recommendation.

Whether you’re a cat person, a cyberpunk fan, or just into games that don’t overstay their welcome, this one’s for you.

Listener Reviews

Kind words from our listeners

Sounds like dialogue that’s ripe for skipping if I’m honest.

I’ll give her a rip later. It’s either that or mandatory training in work.

I’m giving it a listen now. They have nice voices and seem sound. 👍

Listening to their review of Spider-Man Remastered (has been my obsession since the PC release around 2 weeks ago), and think they’re pretty spot on. The web-swinging has become the biggest ‘selling’ point of any Spider-Man game, along with an open, thriving city to freely swing around in.

Gave it a follow on ye olde Spotify.
